Those of us in the paint and coatings industry understand that watching paint dry is actually not as boring as it may sound. There is a tremendous amount of science behind the drying and curing of coating films. But what about watching paint weather, that has to be pretty dull, right? Well, find out how interesting it really is in our recent article titled “Watching Paint Weather” in the August/September 2022 issue of CoatingsTech magazine. I had the opportunity to profile Dow’s paint and coating exposure program and talk to their experts at the Dow Exposure Station in Spring House, PA. Learn a little about how they advance the science of paint every day, and how they have expanded our understanding of coating durability, day by day, for the last 70 years.

Energy usage and conservation are obviously important issues for our environment and society, and paints and coatings have a role to play. Insulation materials help to regulate heat transfer and conserve the energy used to produce heat, not just in our homes but in many industrial processes. Thermal insulation coatings are a class of functional coatings that can replace traditional insulation in some applications. They can help with energy management, as well as protecting workers from contact with hot surfaces, condensation control, and can also be useful in applications where corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a concern. To learn more about the science of paint and thermal insulation coatings, check out this link to our article in the February 2022 issue of CoatingsTech magazine.
